Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (10/6/25): Brewers 7, Cubs 3 – Big Homers Put Chicago in 0-2 Hole
For the second consecutive game in the NLDS, the Cubs began things with a big home run. Much like the previous affair, however, things went downhill rapidly after that. The Brewers stormed back quickly with a couple of three-run homers, which eventually led to a victory that put Chicago on the brink of elimination Monday night.
Nico Hoerner singled and Kyle Tucker walked to put two on with one out against Aaron Ashby in the top of the 1st inning. Seiya Suzuki stepped up to the plate and crushed a three-run homer into the second deck in left field that put the North Siders in front 3-0.
Shōta Imanaga got off to a promising start by striking out the first two Milwaukee hitters in the bottom of the frame. A pair of soft singles put a pair on base for Andrew Vaughn, and the former White Sox first baseman connected on a game-tying three-run homer that just cleared the fence in left.
Imanaga surrendered the lead on a solo shot from William Contreras in the bottom of the 3rd. The Brewers delivered the big blow against Daniel Palencia in the 4th when Jackson Chourio hit a three-run bomb to dead center that brought the score to 7-3.
Milwaukee’s bullpen stifled the Cubs the rest of the way, allowing just a single after the 2nd inning and winning by the same 7-3 margin. (Box score)
Key Moment
The momentum from the Suzuki home run was quickly shut down by Vaughn’s homer and Chicago could never recover from it.
Why the Cubs Lost
The offense just failed to get anything going after the opening inning and the bullpen could not hold up.
Stats That Matter
- Imanaga continued his trend of allowing home runs in the second half: 2.2 IP, 4 R, 5 H, 3 K, 0 BB.
- Suzuki also had a walk in addition to his homer.
- Hoerner had a pair of singles.
Bottom Line
The Cubs are really up against it now and will need to win three consecutive games to take the series. They have to play much better than they have in the first two games, which means getting a big effort from their starter and scoring more than three runs. It’s not over, but things need to change in a hurry just to put up a fight.
On Deck
The series shifts to Wrigley for Game 3 on Wednesday at 4:08pm CT. Jameson Taillon takes on Quinn Priester in a contest broadcast exclusively on TBS with a radio feed on 670 The Score.
