Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (8/3/26): Cubs 10, Dodgers 5 – Four Home Runs in Comeback Victory
The Cubs and Dodgers got together on Monday night in the wake of a flurry of moves at the trade deadline earlier in the day. After falling behind immediately, the home team responded with a barrage of homers to thrill the Wrigley faithful and take the opener.
Former Cardinals outfielder Tommy Edman greeted Matthew Boyd rudely with a three-run homer to put Los Angeles ahead 3-0 in the top of the 1st. Chicago wasted no time answering back against Justin Wrobleski, with Seiya Suzuki hitting a two-run dinger to cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the frame.
The North Siders took the lead when Kevin Alcántara connected on his first career home run, a two-run blast that made it 4-3 in the bottom of the 2nd. Carson Kelly added to the fun with his own two-run jack in the 3rd that increased the margin to 6-3.
The Dodgers got one back when Pete Crow-Armstrong uncharacteristically misplayed a single by Eliezer Alfonzo, allowing Kyle Tucker to score and bring them within 6-4. Michael Busch hit the Cubs’ fourth homer, a solo shot in the 5th to make it 7-4.
Teoscar Hernandez hit an absolute bomb down Waveland Avenue in the 6th to make it a two-run game again. Chicago broke the game open in the bottom of the inning when Kelly drew a walk with the bases loaded against Tanner Scott, and Busch singled home two more to balloon the lead to 10-5. That was the end of the scoring as the home squad was victorious by the same score. (Box score)
Key Moment
It was huge for Suzuki and the Cubs to respond immediately after they fell behind 3-0. The Dodgers can be almost impossible to stop once they get rolling, so getting right back in the game helped a lot.
Why the Cubs Won
The bats came to life in a big way after some struggles against the Yankees. Hitting four home runs is going to win you a lot of baseball games.

- A couple of big swings hurt Boyd, but he did enough to win: 6.2 IP, 5 R, 4 ER, 9 H, 3 K, and 1 BB.
- Big night for Busch with three RBIs.

Bottom Line
The Cubs did a lot to solidify their pitching at the deadline, but the fate of this team is going to come down to the offense. They are going to live and die with this lineup after opting not to make any offensive upgrades, which is fine if the bats perform like they did in this one. The front office made a significant push to improve the Cubs’ chances in the postseason, and it’s going to be exciting the next couple of months.
