Caleb Thielbar Exits with Apparent Leg Injury

Already down three of their top relievers in Daniel Palencia, Hunter Harvey, and Phil Maton, the Cubs suffered another blow in Thursday’s walk-off win. Lefty Caleb Thielbar entered to close the game, but served up an equalizing home run to Adolis García. On his third pitch to Trea Turner, Thielbar landed awkwardly and appeared to be grabbing his left hamstring.

Riley Martin escaped a jam and Javier Assad pitched a clean 10th to set up the Cubs ninth straight win, but their mounting bullpen losses loom large. They now head to Southern California for three against the Dodgers and three more against the Padres before their next day off. The offense had better keep humming at this point, because the Cubs are running out of reliable relievers.

And just in case you’re wondering, no, this isn’t a reason to call for heads to roll among the training staff.
