Cubs Activate Daniel Palencia, DFA Yacksel Ríos
I guess throwing 98 mph really doesn’t guarantee you a job…
The Chicago Cubs today reinstated right-handed pitcher Daniel Palencia from the 15-day injured list (left oblique strain). In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Yacksel Ríos was designated for assignment.
Palencia, 26, is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA with one save in five relief appearances this season. He has allowed just three hits in 5.0 innings pitched and notched five strikeouts. He was placed on the injured list on April 17 and made one rehab appearance with Triple-A Iowa on Friday.
Rios, 32, made one appearance for the Cubs, tossing 1.2 perfect innings with two strikeouts on April 26 at Los Angeles-NL.
The Cubs play the Arizona Diamondbacks today at 1:20 p.m. at Wrigley Field in a game that can be seen on Marquee and heard on 104.3 the Score and in Spanish on TUDN 106.7.
