Cubs Have 5 Gold Glove Nominees, Including All 3 OF Spots
Rawlings announced its 2026 Gold Glove Award finalists on Wednesday, and the Cubs were predictably represented well. They have finalists at five different positions, including all three outfield spots, and should take home the hardware in a few of those. Winners will be announced on November 1, a month before the lockout is expected to begin.
The Cubs do not have any finalists across the first four positions, not even Nico Hoerner, but they did get Alex Bregman at third, Dansby Swanson at short, Ian Happ in left, Pete Crow-Armstrong in center, and Seiya Suzuki in right. Suzuki played much better defense this season after disappointing play in right, which came as a surprise because he was an elite defender in Japan.
Suzuki led all NL right fielders in DRS (14), FRV (8), and FanGraphs’ Def (4.8), making him the favorite to win on his way out the door. Happ winning his fourth straight as his contract likewise expires would be pretty interesting, as would Bregman getting one after Matt Shaw was a finalist last year. Crow-Armstrong is a lock to earn his second Gold Glove, and I’d bet on Masyn Winn getting his second in a row over Swanson and Geraldo Perdomo.
